Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

Well I spoke to my friend abroad last night. It was of course already early morning for her, and she was getting ready to leave for work. She said that she went to bed really early on Saturday night – 8:15!!! Yikes. And now it was bright and early the next morning for her. She was ready for her week to begin. I of course was winding down my evening with no thought to preparing for the next day. I was in the midst of my weekend, Saturday night easing into Sunday morning. It really struck me that not only does my friend miss out on the greatest of inventions – Sundays – but also Saturday nights.  So, with a nod to my friend I went to bed, with thoughts of the Sunday ahead.

I slept in, as did the rest of my family, everyone stayed cozy in their beds reading and rolling over for another doze. It was toasty warm in bed and very very chilly outside – outside the house as well as outside the bed! Finally, when I could no longer do without a cup of tea I ventured out of bed.

With thoughts toward lunch, I began putting together a big pot of soup and put ingredients in the bread machine. The house began to fill with the aromas of home cooked food.

Later on I went for a walk in the cold clear air. It was a beautiful day – bright and sunny – really a perfect winter day. Not too cold or windy and gloriously sunny. There were quite a few people out walking and I had a chance to chat with several neighbors. In the winter when everyone huddles inside, it is nice to have the chance to run into a friendly face I haven’t seen in a while.  But it was chilly enough that you couldn’t chat all day either.  Just as I was rounding the corner to my house I began to feel the cold, and I was pleased to feel the heat on my face as I opened my door.

Soon we all gathered at the table for a great relaxed lunch. With nothing pressing on the horizon we agreed on a movie to watch and settled into the couches and each other for a relaxing afternoon.

I wish my friend could have joined us!
